An accomplished electrical engineer and safety professional, Dianoush Emami leads a distinguished career that has spanned nearly four decades. Dianoush Emami has supervised numerous projects over the course of his career, including directing a research project for the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI).

EPRI’s formation was prompted by the Great Northeastern Blackout of 1965. Recognizing that the electrical power generation sector was badly in need of an independent, nonprofit research organization, Dr. Chauncey Starr laid out plans for EPRI in 1972. Since then, the nonprofit group has served its members and the larger electricity sector through cutting-edge research projects, proof-of-concept demonstrations, and state-of-the-industry reports.

EPRI also pursues and promotes a range of initiatives designed to improve the overall state of the electricity industry. Among these is the Efficient Electrification Initiative (EEI), a three-year program that strives to find ways to replace other energy sources with electric alternatives. For example, the program supports research into high-voltage electric vehicle charging and advanced electric heat pumps.

In addition to these engineering projects, the EEI produces comprehensive reports analyzing the benefits of electrification projects for utility operators and end users. Ultimately, EPRI hopes that the EEI will drive energy reforms and reduce levels of atmospheric CO2 and other pollutants caused by fossil fuels.
